Supporting young individuals with One Million Mentors Partnership

National Mentoring Day took place on Friday 27^th October, so it is a great time to highlight the importance of mentoring. Since 2019, Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training has worked with One Million Mentors to provide support for young people through personal and professional development from experienced business mentors. One Million Mentors is a unique community-based mentoring programme bringing together local young people, employers, professionals, and partner organisations. The aim is simple: to transform society by connecting one million young people with one million opportunities. 1MM mentoring is one to one, for young people aged 14-25 years old, for 1 hour, once a month for up to a year.

Millie’s Experience

Millie (aged 21) is a Business Administration apprentice at Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training and has been having 1-1 sessions monthly to help support her within her apprenticeship. Millie comments: “One Million Mentors has really helped me to progress within my apprenticeship at Chamber Training. I have found it useful, and I would like to thank Richard my mentor for all the support I have received!”

Anna’s Experience

Anna (aged 23) is an employee at Chamber of Commerce Training working in the Marketing department that has been part of 1MM last year. Anna comments: “1MM has helped me to build confidence and it is a great scheme to help keep on top of goals and achievements. It is great to get an external viewpoint on how I am doing things, and it is great way to find solutions from a business professional.”

Sarah Williams, Training Manager at Chamber of Commerce Training says: “The mentors offer young people support with their education, training, and career choices by facilitating goal setting, encouraging further learning, and promoting resilience. Young people can gain great insight from their mentors, grow in maturity, and create ambition to succeed. The support of a mentor and our partnership with 1MM offers the perfect mix for young people who would benefit from guidance to unlock their potential.”
